Start your own flower garden

Gardening is very interesting, and can improve your home. Beside it will attract butterflies, hummingbirds and bees, it will raise your property value. Although, it looks easy, starting your own garden is complicated. The common mistake is making a bigger garden than you can maintain. Because you are a beginner, you should start a small garden, about 25 square feet. This is enough space for 20-30 plants, one or two perennials and 3 types of annuals. If this is too much for you, you can use smaller site. At any time, you can increase your garden. The site should have enough sunlight. If it is exposed to sunlight 12 hours a day, chose flowers that can handle that. Anyway, your garden demands frequent watering.

After you chose the site, remove the upper layer of the soil. You must remove all weeds, grass and rocks. The recommended is to dig up the bed at least foot deep. Plant like neutral or slightly acid soil, so add lime if your soil is too acid. Now, you should buy a flower seed. Because flowers bloom in different time of a year, buy many different kinds of seed. Plant smaller plants in front of your garden and bigger behind. You must plant each flower according to its specification. Depending of your garden need, you must provide enough water to your plants. If you live in a warmer area, provide more water to the plants. After the flowers are bloomed, cut the flowers periodically. Many plants will bloom again, but only if you cut off old flowers. Pay attention, some plants bloom only once, so do not cut their flowers!
